"Your Majesty, how do you run such an efficient government?
Are there any tips you can give me?"
"폐하, 폐하께서는 어떻게 하여 그처럼 능률적인 정부를 운영하신데요?
제게 가르침 하나 주실래요?"
"Well," said the Queen,
"글쎄요" 여왕이 말했다.
"The most important thing is to surround yourself with intelligent people."
"가장 중요한 것은 당신 주변에 똑똑한 사람들을 두는 거지요."
Obama frowned, and then asked,
눈살을 찌푸리며 오바마는 다시 물었다.
"But how do I know if the people around me are really intelligent?"
"근데 내 주변에 정말로 똑똑한 사람들이 있는지 어떻게 해서 알아내지요?
The Queen took a sip of champagne.
여왕은 샴페인 한 잔 마시고는
"Oh, that's easy; you just ask them to answer an intelligent riddle, watch"
"아 그거 아주 쉬운 일이죠; 그들에게 한가지 수수께끼를 풀어 보라고 하면 되지요, 보세요."
The Queen pushed a button on her intercom.
여왕은 인터콤(구내 통신기) 단추를 눌렀다.
"Please send Tony Blair in here, would you?"
"토니 불 레어 좀 들어오라고 그래 줄래요?"
Tony Blair walked into the room and said,
토니 불 레어가 방에 들어오며 말했다.
"Yes, your Majesty?"
"예, 폐하?"
The Queen smiled and said,
여왕은 웃음 지으며 말했다,
"Answer me this please Tony.
"토니 이것 좀 답해봐요.
Your mother and father have a child.
당신의 어머님과 아버님에게 아이가 하나 있는데
It is not your brother and it is not your sister.
당신의 형제도 아니고 누이도 아니면
Who is it?"
그게 누군가요"
Without pausing for a moment, Tony Blair answered …
순간의 주저함도 없이 토니가 답했다…
"That would be me."
"그저 저겠죠."
"Yes! Very good." said the Queen.
"그래요, 잘했어요." 여왕이 말했다.
Obama went back home to ask Joe Biden the same question.
오바마가 집으로 돌아가서 같은 질문을 조 바이든에게 물었다.
"Joe, answer this for me."
"조, 이것 내게 답해봐요."
"Your mother and your father have a child.
당신의 어머니와 아버지에게 아이가 하나 있는 데
It's not your brother and it's not your sister.
그게 당신의 형제도 아니고 누이도 아니면
Who is it?"
그게 누구게?
"I'm not sure," said Biden.
"글쎄요." 바이든이 말했다.
"Let me get back to you on that one."
"그것 내가 다시 알아 올게요"
He went to his advisors and asked everyone, but none could give him an answer.
그는 그의 고문들에게 가서 한 사람 한 사람 잡고 물었으나
아무도 그에게 답을 주지 못 했다.
Frustrated, Biden went to work in congressional gym and saw Paul Ryan there.
좌절감에 바이든은 국회 체육관에 갔더니 거기에 폴 라이언이 있었다.
Biden went up to him and asked, "Hey Paul, see if you can answer this question."
바이든은 그에게 가서 물었다. "야 폴아, 내 질문하나 답해 볼래"
"Shoot Joe."
"쏴봐요, 조.."
“Your mother and father have a child and it's not your brother or your sister.
너네 어머니와 아버지에게 아이가 하나 있는 데 네 형제도 아니고 네 누이도 아니면
Who is it?"
그게 누구게?
Paul Ryan answered,
폴 라이언이 답했다.
"That's easy, it's me!"
"그거 너무 쉽다. 나지 뭐!"
Biden smiled, and said, "Good answer Paul!"
바이든이 웃음 지으며 말했다, " 정답, 폴"
Biden then, went back to speak with President Obama.
그리고 나서 바이든은 곧장 오바마 대통령에게 이르러 갔다.
"Say, I did some research and I have the answer to that riddle."
"이거 내가 연구를 좀 하여 그 수수께끼의 답을 찾아냈우다."
"It's Paul Ryan!"
답은 폴 라이언이요!"
Obama got up, stomped over to Biden, and angrily yelled into his face,
오바마가 일어서서는 바이든에게 윽박질러 그의 면상에 사 화난 소리를 질렀다.
"No! You idiot! It's Tony Blair!"
"틀렸어 이 바보야 답은 토니 불 레어야!"
